NRC issues draft revision of ISFSI inspection procedures

NRC staff has issued for internal review draft revised inspection procedures for independent spent fuel storage facilities, or ISFSIs, to implement the recommendations of a March 18 working group report, according to a staff Aug. 27 project status report obtained by S&P Global Platts. An NRC staff working group was formed in June 2019 to develop a risk-informed approach to dry storage facility inspections across the agency's four regions (Inside NRC, 11 May,8). The working group's goal was "to evaluate and enhance the NRC's existing ISFSI inspection program by developing a clearer, more risk-informed, comprehensive, and consistent approach to ISFSI inspections across the four regions that focuses on those areas most important to safety," the status report said.
