Massachusetts sues NRC over Pilgrim license

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts filed suit September 25 to halt a transfer of the operating license and decommissioning trust fund for Entergy's permanently shut Pilgrim plant in Massachusetts. Pilgrim began operating commercially in 1972. Entergy purchased the plant from Boston Edison in 1999 after the deregulation of New England power markets. The unit shut permanently May 31 after Entergy said it could not be operated profitably in those markets.
