NRC commissioners voted 3-1 to endorse a staff proposal to discontinue a rulemaking that would have expanded to vendors and contractors the requirement, already in place for most applicants and licensees, that they submit complete and accurate information or face agency sanctions. The majority of commissioners said the rulemaking, which was initiated in response to a petition submitted in 2013, was a low priority and would provide a minimal safety benefit. The agency has existing authority to hold licensees and non-licensees accountable, and has used that authority in the past, NRC Chairman Kristine Svinicki wrote in comments attached to her vote sheet on the matter.
