NRC sees progress in the safety-conscious work environment at Watts Bar

Since NRC issued a letter noting safety culture shortcomings in 2016,progress has been made in the safety-conscious work environment atTennessee Valley Authority’s Watts Bar nuclear plant, NRC Region IIAdministrator Laura Dudes said August 27 at an NRC meeting.NRC defines a safety-conscious work environment, or SCWE, as anenvironment in which workers are encouraged to raise safety concernsto management or the regulator without fear of retaliation and suchconcerns are reviewed promptly and resolved appropriately. Theagency expects licensees to establish and maintain a healthy SCWE.
