Automobile manufacturers and their customers need robust government incentives to advance new technologies if recently enacted fuel economy standards and renewable fuel mandates are to become a reality, industry executives said last week. Top officials from Chrysler, Ford, General Motors and Toyota agreed that no matter what the government sets in terms of fuel or efficiency standards, consumers will always have the final say about which products survive. "All of these advanced technologies have to offer no-compromise solutions to the consumer," said Tom Stricker, director of technical and regulatory affairs for Toyota Motor North America.
