SSE Q1: gas-firing down, coal extinguished

SSE’s UK gas- and oil-fired generation fell 28% in the three months toJune 30 while renewables output climbed 15%, the utility said in a July18 trading statement.There was no coal-fired generation during the period, meanwhile,as SSE confirmed closure by end-March 2020 of its remainingoperational coal capacity at the 1.5 GW Fiddler’s Ferry plant.Increased renewable output reflected start-up of new windcapacity since June 2018.
