Duke Energy net slides 18% to $1.53 billion reflecting Spectra spin-off; power profits up

Duke Energy's net income last year was $1.53 billion, down 18% from 2006. The drop reflected the $783 million of 2006 net from discontinued operations, mainly the non-utility natural gas operations-Field Services and Natural Gas Transmission-spun off to Duke stockholders into what is now Spectra Energy in January 2007. Last year, discontinued operations lost $22 million. They include synthetic fuels, for which Duke did not break out results.
