For several decades, Harvard University has been slowly bt surely expanding into Boston's Allston neighborhood, across the river from the main campus in Cambridge. North Allston is already the site of the Harvard stadium and the business school. Now there are plans for new science facilities on land recently acquired by the university. All this has set off neighbor-hood alarms, particularly about gentrification and the loss of low-rent housing. So it's not surprising that Harvard and the city of Boston are careful about stepping on toes when introducing a new project like a campus-to-river greenway that would run through Allston on Harvard-owned land and would provide a new park adjacent to the North Allston public library.
