Only a few years ago, Dave Stevens, an attorney, owned two cars—a Honda Civic for work and a Porsche 944S for run—but he sold both when moving to Chicago in 2005. His travel now includes a daily commute on the Chicago "L" (the rapid transit system) and car sharing when a bus or train won't do the trick. Car sharing "is way less expensive" than owning a car, says Stevens, 38, and he likes "the whole environmental slant" associated with his mobility choices.
