The city of Yakutsk recently celebrated welding the first joint of pipe of Gazprom's Power of Siberia gas transmission pipeline in eastern Russia, which will transport gas from the Yakutia and Irkutsk gas production centers to the Far East and China. The pipeline will run nearly 4,000 km through Russia's Irkutsk Region, the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), the Amur Region, the Jewish Autonomous Region and the Khabarovsk Territory with an annual capacity of 38 billion cubic meters. By late 2018, a 2,200-km pipeline section will connect the Chayandinskoye field in Yakutia to the city of Blagoveshchensk on the Russian-Chinese border. Plans also call for pipelines from the Kovyktinskoye field in the Irkutsk Region to the Chayandinskoye field (800 km) and from the town of Svobodny in the Amur Region to the city of Khabarovsk (1,000 km). In this way, Power of Siberia will be connected to the Sakhalin-Khabarovsk-Vladivostok transmission system.
