Measure and the Measureless

Robert P. Crease spends his days traveling between his home in Manhattan and his office in Long Island; he is a renowned author and columnist, a professor of philosophy, and former chairman of the Philosophy Department at Stony Brook University. Professor Crease has authored, co-authored, and edited nine volumes, including The Great Equations, The Prism and the Pendulum, The Second Creation, and Making Physics, and numerous articles for scientific journals. He also writes a monthly column "Critical Point" for Physics World magazine. It is his latest book, World in the Balance: The Historic Quest for an Absolute System of Measurement, which we are going to take a closer look at in this Symposium issue of Philosophy and Technology.
