Tamar Sharon's Human Nature in an Age of Biotechnology offers a superb analysis of the diverse ways of thinking about the posthuman. The density, conceptual clarity, attention to detail, and richness of her work would easily justify devoting significant time in a graduate seminar mining it for the very strong background it offers for addressing any questions about human-technology relationships. For scholars, it can also serve as a sourcebook. Her insights should be particularly valuable to those in STS (science, technology, and society studies), where the important distinctions between the effects and influence of material objects, on the one hand, and agency and intention-ality, on the other, far too often disappear.
