Towards an Operationalization of Mediated Posthumanism: Identifying New Articulations of Values in Technology Use

In the sparring grounds of academic commentary, taxonomies are an easy target. Vulnerable to allegations of discrimination on the one hand (they can never be exhaustive) and caricature on the other (as complexity is sacrificed for simplicity), they have their work cut out for them. What I hope to have done in Human Nature in an Age of Biotechnology, by way of taxonomy, is shed new light on the human enhancement debate as a whole, by expanding its borders to include philosophical approaches and fields that do not typically converse, and shed new light on each of its composite parts, by positioning them in new relations to one another. Ultimately, this taxonomy had an instrumental value: to shape a new approach that could integrate the contributions and elude the main shortcomings of existing approaches.
