Book Symposium on Le concept d'information dans la science contemporaine: Cahiers de Royaumont, Les Editions de Minuit/Gauthier-Villars 1965

In 1962, at the illustrious grounds of Royaumont Abbey, situated about an hour north of Paris, a colloquium was held whose attendees included some of France's foremost philosophers and experts on cybernetics and information theory. Presenters included Giorgio de Santillana, Lucien Goldmann, Benoit Mandelbrot, Norbert Wiener, Rene de Possel, Andre Lwoff, Abraham Moles, Henryk Greniewski, Helmar Frank, Jiri Zeman, Francois Bonsack, Louis Couffignal, Albert Perez, Ladislav Tondl, Gilles-Gaston Granger, and Stanislaw Bellert. The colloquium proceedings were published by Les Editions de Minuit and Gauthier-Villars in 1965 under the title Le concept d'information dans la science contemporaine. They include transcripts of the presentations and question and answer periods, opening remarks by Martial Gueroult, an abstract of a last minute presentation by Gilbert Simondon (Simondon was one of the organizers of the conference and proceedings), and notes on a closing speech given by Jean Hyppolite. The proceedings were favorably reviewed by Rene Boirel in a 1967 issue of Les Etudes Philosophiques and somewhat less favorably by the Nobel Prize winning physicist Dennis Gabor in a 1966 issue of The British Journal for the Philosophy of Science (Gabor did not care much for the interdisciplinary nature of the conference).
