Bayanihan spirit saves Pangasinan dike from collapse

Alcala, Pangasinan - -The Filipino bayanihan spirit and system of old still works and makes wonders in our modern times. Municipal officials here proved this virtue once more when they mobilized the people for the gargantuan effort to save a portion of the Agno river flood control dike in Barangay San Pedro Ili, which was breached by rampaging floodwaters of a recent flood. The breach had posed a constant threat to communities in the area protected by the dike structure, particularly with the current rainy season. Alcala Mayor Manuel Collado said bayanihan, coupled by a deep reserve of patience and sacrifice among, saved the entire town from being wiped out by the flood, spawned by heavy continuous rains dumped by typhoon "Marce".
