Mobile music will drive growth of broadband wireless services: Asia Pacific will be major market for the next five years

Mobile music downloads have contributed minimally to operators' overall revenue growth, but music is proving to be one of the main reasons operators are rolling out higher-bandwidth services. The growing popularity of music streaming will make more demands on network capacity as the industry extends its music offering beyond the traditional ring-tone market. Over US$13 billion will be generated by all forms of mobile music by 2011, says 3 GWB publisher Informa Telecoms & Media. A large proportion of that revenue is still derived from ring tones, with ring-back tones starting to make significant contributions to growth.
