Industry body says a strong case has been made for Evolved EDGE

There is a compelling case for mobile operators to deploy Evolved EDGE -also known as EDGE II - technology in their networks as a complement to HSPA and, further down the line, LTE, according to industry body 3G Americas. In a newly published white paper, the industry body says a phased introduction of Evolved EDGE is likely to be adopted in most cases, because of the varying demands of different markets and because device vendors will selectively implement the features of Evolved EDGE that promise the greatest benefits and lowest risk. Currently, when a mobile user moves outside an HSDPA-coverage area, the disparity in downlink data speed between HSDPA and GPRS networks and between HSDPA and EDGE networks is too great to support many applications, 3G Americas says.
