As debate in the US rages over the use of "white space" - spectrum in the 54-698MHz band set to become available Feb. 17 in the switch to digital TV- for wireless broadband, numerous technology questions remain unanswered.rnLast month Google ramped up a public-relations campaign, Free the Airwaves, to garner public support for unlicensed use of white space. The campaign's web site includes an electronic petition that members of the public can sign to urge the US Federal Communications Commission to release white space for unlicensed wireless-broadband use, which Google calls Wi-Fi 2.0.
