Nokia launches world's first multiterabit network processor

On June 14, 2017, Nokia launched the FP4, a new 2.4Tbps network processor unit (NPU) for Nokia'srn7750 and 7950 router portfolios. The FP4-enabled 7750 and 7950 have been designed to address thernneeds of both communications service providers (CSPs) and internet content providers (ICPs).rnVendors have been faced with the challenge of meeting the needs of a split market, with ICPs drivingrna second set of requirements on top of the CSP set. The FP4 7750 and 7950 are designed for bothrnmarkets, enabling Nokia to drive scale and reduce cost/bit processed.rnTo address both markets with one platform, Nokia had to walk a tightrope of meeting the divergentrnexpectations of two demanding customer groups. Nokia has found the right balance with the FP4. Forrnthe CSPs, Nokia is delivering scale, security, and investment protection with a seamless upgrade pathrnfor the installed base. For the ICPs, Nokia is delivering cloud-scale economics, a data center chassis,rnand an invaluable second source to counter Broadcom's growing hegemony.
