Tencent: Technology and IP become the next battlegrounds

Tencent hosted its annual gaming conference on May 16 to announce 60 upcoming titles in China, including self-developed titles, licensed titles, and overseas games. Nearly all are mobile games, with the most anticipated ones being League of Legends Mobile, Mir Legends, Dynasty Warriors, and I’m MT5. Through its investments in Roblox, Snap, and Spotify, Tencent is stepping into the best position to usher in-and profit from- the Metaverse, a shared virtual world combining the physical and digital. As the major shareholder of Epic, the publisher of Fortnite, Tencent is the company closest to the Metaverse in the gaming industry.
