Ride-hailing company Uber has shed its self-driving vehicle division Advanced Technologies Group (ATG) to cut costs and focus on becoming profitable. ATG has been sold to Aurora Technologies, a startup that is developing software to enable autonomous trucks. Uber will invest $400 million in Aurora for a 26% stake. Uber had pursued autonomous vehicles (AVs) when Travis Kalanick was CEO but following a deadly car crash in Arizona, and allegations of intellectual property theft from Waymo, current CEO Dara Khosrowshahi has led a rethink. Uber will now focus on becoming profitable through its taxi and food delivery services.
