His book provides an inspiring answer to this question. The essays in this collection open up a rich field of research surrounding the concept, the art and its practitioners, and the factors influencing its creation, reception and functioning. A seemingly marginal phenomenon of relatively small relevance to the mainstream of Translation Studies, in the light of the research presented in this volume, self-translation proves to be a focal point for some of the most fascinating debates in the area.
