摘要

'Why study self-translation?' is the title of the last sub-section of the very last chapter of this collection of essays devoted to one of the least researched areas in literary translation studies, 'a relatively neglected species,' as the editor of the volume, Anthony Cordingley puts it. His book provides an inspiring answer to this question. The essays in this collection open up a rich field of research surrounding the concept, the art and its practitioners, and the factors influencing its creation, reception and functioning. A seemingly marginal phenomenon of relatively small relevance to the mainstream of Translation Studies, in the light of the research presented in this volume, self-translation proves to be a focal point for some of the most fascinating debates in the area.
