Translation in anthologies and collections (19th and 20th centuries)

Translation in Anthologies and Collections is a collection of essays exploring the histories of selected translations published as collections, or retrospectively gathered together into anthologies. The qualifying circumstances under examination in the articles range from censorship under various political regimens to the translation of collected children's literature and short stories. The book's seventeen articles approach the subject's analysis from various perspectives, and are separated into three sections: 'discursive practices and scholarly agency', 'national and international canonization processes', and 'selection and censorship'. The contributions that immediately stand out for their scholarly impact include that of the combined editors in the introductory chapter (pp. 1-16), that of Pieta (pp. 153-170), and that of Odber de Baubeter (pp. 189-204), arguably the biggest name in this under-researched field.
