Nagios is an Open Source infrastructure monitoring tool that is designed to inform system administrators of problems on their networks before it affects clients, end-users or managers, and can be rectified in-time. And amongst long list of features this package can take care of network monitoring too. It was primarily made for Linux, but works well on Windows, Linux/ Unix/BSD, Netware, and other network devices too.
