Make Your Disks Future-proof for Free by Upgrading them to GPT, May 2013 Your article "Make your disks future proof.....to GPT" could have included a warning to those who tend to leap first! GUID or GPT disks require the system to have UEFI and not BIOS. If a system is BIOS based it can't read GPT! Next not all OSes can handle GPT (especially the 32 bit versions). Further, the real advantage of GPT is there when you have HDDs of more than 2 TB. By the way it appears that now HDDs of less that 500GB are difficult to get. Personally my attraction to GPT is that I would like to have a relatively large number of partitions to segregate my working files and also be able to have multi-booting, without the limitations and hassles of "Logical Partitions in an Extended Partition". Of course the requirements of the user would take into account whether it is a standalone system, a unit on a LAN with other units of different vintages and OSes etc. etc.
