If you take a look at the daily life of consumers today, right from cooking their breakfast in the morning with the microwave, answering the phone, sitting in the car, switching on the media player, coming to office to answering a conference call, during the typical course of a day, you come across at least 10-15 different form factors of electronic devices for a variety of needs, from media consumption to communication, in addition to necessities such as withdrawing money from an ATM. Unlike the web browser or the PC, these devices usually have limited onboard processing power, limited memory, etc. In the case of a microwave, the control panel has a completely different user interface compared to, say, an ATM. Hence, as a designer, you constantly struggle at trying to achieve high quality aesthetics in devices with limited hardware capabilities.
