Advances in Pattern Recognition

摘要

Welcome to the special issue of Pattern Recognition Letters on Advances in Pattern Recognition (PR). We have embarked on a very difficult task. Through a handful of papers, some with seemingly different theme, we attempt to capture the recent advances in PR. This is surely an injustice to the wide spectrum of advances made in the field of PR; however, this development is mainly due to the legacy of a very successful conference—International Conference on Advances in Pattern Recognition (ICAPR03) that we had organized in December 2003. Therefore, to keep our agenda straight, what we are presenting here is a set of important research papers in the field of PR that shows promise for future exploration. We believe that the selected papers provide a balance between PR theory and applications, a balance between different facets of PR, especially the interdisciplinary avenues of PR involving image processing and computer vision.
