Summer school memories of Prof. Maria Petrou in Onuma

The Summer School on Pattern Recognition and Statistical Learning, which was held in Onuma, Japan on 20-21, September, 2011 was our last pleasant cooperation with Maria. We would like to share some warm recollections of this well-known scientist and good friend. The Summer School had two-folded goal: to offer students an opportunity to talk with distinguished researchers and to make them aware that their studies are at level of world-wide competition. The school was supported by Hokkaido University Global COE program. To achieve this goal, we invited three distinguished researchers: Prof. Sergios Theodoridis (Greece), Prof. Maria Petrou (Greece and United Kingdom), and Prof. Michal Haindl (Czech Rep.). Unfortunately, Prof. Theodoridis could not come for personal reasons.
