If you could look into the future, what would you like to see (besides next week's lottery numbers and the score of next year's Super Bowl)? Some of us might like to see what kind of companies we will be working for in the next 10 years. If current trends continue, it's safe to assume that pulp and paper companies will be larger and more global. The question is, how global? Today, the barriers to transnational mergers and acquisitions are slipping away. With the advent of the European Monetary Union and more open European financial markets, it is becoming much easier to create stock-for-stock mergers between North American and European companies.
