Paper physics vs. paper technology; which one does the paper industry need?

Let us first define the important terms used in this keynote speech. Research may be defined to consist of generating good background information for decision making. It is important to note that this decision making requires that the researcher or the research team has been able to position himself, herself or themselves to the situation, where the research results, i.e. decision making material, will be used. Paper technology may be defined as the science of combining raw materials, unit operations and information to useful sheet-like fibrous products economically and in an environmentally sound manner. This definition of paper technology contains also pulp manufacture and board making.
