Rethink drug packaging

Did you know that for the years 2004 to 2009 the number of annual emergency department visits attributed to unintentional medication overdoses for children younger than five is up significantly while those caused by automobile accidents has declined? My sons were born in 1999, 2005 and 2006, the very period when those unintentional overdoses were rising. As an advocate of user-centered packaging design (and as a mother), these overdoses make me think back on my experiences. What drove this overdose increase and what can be done to reverse the trend?
