In 2020, the use of aluminum containers for water will increase considerably, spearheaded by Aquafina® and Dasani®. The experiment aims to improve sustainability bona fides via reduced PET. "Experiment" is apt because aluminum's history with other beverages does not make consumer acceptance automatic. The rest of the water industry has to decide whether to make aluminum a packaging choice. Since no decision involving sustainability pleases all stakeholders, brand-owners should be willing and able to explain and defend. But how?
