Recycling of Containers and Packaging in Europe

In Europe, a variety of efforts have been made to establish novel recycling systems, and differ- ent systems have been adopted independently in individual countries. To identify which systems are more favorable for recycling in Japan, it may be useful to review the various examples in Europe. The author was given an opportunity for discussion with the persons concerned in differ- ent European countries in the course of comparison between different European systems for recy- cling of containers and packaging. There is no sufficient space left for detail description of the dis- cussion in this paper, though a brief description is provided about comparison between different systems in individual countries and key points.
