Trend of Development of Technologies for Recycling of Plastic Containers and Packaging

Separate collection and recycling of plastic containers and packaging become compulsory in April 2000 with the full enforcement of the Law for Recycling of Containers and Packaging. I showed you definition of recycling in accordance with the Law, and possible methods for recycling of plastic containers and packaging, and gave an introduction to the recent trend of development of technologies for recycling. For reuse as raw materials and recycling into oil, some technologies have been already put into practical application. However, for reuse as raw materials for blast fur- naces and coke ovens, construction of facilities is in progress, aiming at the start of operation in FY2000, and for recycling into gas, three-year feasibility tests are in progress from the year 1998. Reuse as raw fuel for cement kiln has not yet been approved as a method fo recycling, though field tests are in progress for polyvinyl chloride resins.
