INTERPACK 1999 and Trends in Packaging in Germany

In Japan, the packaging after the year 2000 must be eco-friendly, inexpensive, small lightweight and recyclable. We toured hypermarkets in the city of Dusseldorf and small supermarkets in the suburbs of the same city, and visited a packaging exhibition INTERPACK l999 to understand the German pack- aging trends. In this paper, we report on the distribution system using paper multipack stand-up trays that aim to boost stores' sales efficiency.
