Options in Web Tension Control

Web tension is a totally transient phenomenon. Tension is produced by pulling on the web against a resisting force during processing, and ceases to exist when that force is removed. Tension is generally created in three areas in the machine: the unwind, intermediate and windup zones. At the unwind and windup phases, the diameter and speed of the roll is continuously changing, resulting in a very dynamic set of tension control parameters. Intermediate control requirements, on the other hand, remain fairly stable, due to the constant speed and diameter of the transport components at this stage.
