The flexible packaging industry continues to redefine itself through mergers and acquisitions that for each of the past three years have seen record activity. During 1997, no fewer than 32 transactions transpired, affecting $6.6 billion in sales of flexible packaging. Total cumulative (1997) sales of printed flexible packaging of the 98 ranked companies in this year's survey was $6.2 billion compared to 1996 sales of $5.8 billion for the 95 companies ranked in '97's survey. Only those companies with sales of $5 million or greater are considered "top" flexible packaging converters.
