It's fitting that drupa is held on the same four-year cycle as the Summer Olympics. For the approximately 200,000 people in attendance at the world's largest printing trade fair, the 11 days in Duesseldorf manage to simultaneously feel like a marathon and a sprint - and weaving in and out of the massive crowds throw in some hurdles for good measure. After reaching the finish line of my first drupa, it reassured me that every step of the race was worth it. There are so many exciting takeaways for the printing industry from drupa 2016, but reflecting on the show since I've been back in the States keeps leading me back to one aspect in particular: The optimism for printing's future.
