Paper-insulated cables are constructed with an impervious metallic outer jacket in order to protect them against ingress of moisture. On »modern« transition-joints to XLPE-insulated cables, this metal barrier is interupted, hence, a risk of moisture pene-tration exists. This text presents measure-ments of water-vapour permeability of used materials and discusses the results of ageing tests.
