A diffractive optical element with self-imaging capabilities isnused to make a phase-shifting digital holography optical system simplernand cheaper. Sequential phase-shifting requires multiple exposures, andnparallel phase-shifting demands a more complicated optical system. Asnopposed to typical phase-shifting methods, using the self-imaging diffractivenoptical element requires only one exposure on a low-cost CMOSnmatrix, and due to the small number of needed elements, the opticalnsystem is very compact. Instead of the approximation and interpolationnmethods, the properties of the self-imaging effect are utilized in the recordingnprocess and in the numerical reconstruction process.
