Effects of magnetic field on the excitonic properties, optical absorption and the changes of refractive index are studied numerically in a CdS/CdSe/CdS asymmetric quantum well with the solution of one dimensional Schroedinger wave equation using Aldrich-Bajaj effective potential. The magnetic field dependence on the binding energy, optical transition energy and the oscillator strength of a bound polaron is investigated taking into account the geometrical confinement effect. The envelop wave function is employed for obtaining the eigen energies using variational technique within the effective mass approximation. The density matrix method associated with the numerical calculations of the trail wave function is engaged to obtain the optical properties with the two level system. The numerical results show that the excitonic and optical properties can be altered with the change in well widths, barrier width and the application of magnetic field strength. It also exhibits that the peaks of absorption coefficients and changes of refractive index increase with the magnetic field strength and move towards the higher photon energies.
