Operating Systems Review: Year In Review

This issue marks the one-year anniversary of the new publication policy for Operating Systems Review. I hope you have enjoyed the new format and would welcome any comments or suggestions. For each issue, guest editors have solicited and assembled submissions for a special theme. Marc Fiuczynski (Princeton) bravely coordinated the first issue dedicated to PlanetLab. Barney Maccabe and Patrick Bridges (University of New Mexico) and Orran Krieger (IBM) organized an issue on Operating and Runtime Systems for High-End Computing Systems and Gun Sirer (Cornell) produced a collection of work on Self-Organizing Systems. In this issue, Erik Reidel (Seagate) has assembled a wonderful collection of papers from the file and storage system community. Their efforts have been the core of this new approach to Operating Systems Review. Thanks to each of them for their hard work! Serving as a guest editor of an issue of OSR is an opportunity to shine light on an important problem, to expose the SIGOPS community to an area of active research that you would like to see get more attention, or to survey the contributions of a particular company or organization. A terrific issue of OSR can be both a bully pulpit and a gift to the community. Consider serving as an OSR guest editor at least once in your career!
