It's not often that something comes along to shake information professionals out of our "been there, seen that, know everything" attitude toward end-user products. But if you're looking for a new trick to turn, Profound just might do the job. "Wouldn't that be nice if I could afford it," has been my normal response to M.A.I.D.'s marketing and products, but one quick demonstration of Profound at the 1995 SLA conference and I was hooked. I had to have it. Market research reports, once a pipe dream and only faintly glimpsed over years of skimming PROMT records, were mine for the taking, complete with charts, graphs, and pictures galore. In-depth market sector reports and country profiles also were replete with graphics—all for reasonable and controllable costs.
