The american library association's Midwinter conference brought 11,716 people, 3,622 of whom were exhibitors, to Boston in early January-very early January. For many librarians and a few vendors, showing up in Boston on Jan. 8 was difficult, coming so close on the heels of December holidays and the end of the fiscal year. The good news for travelers was the absence of the blizzards and heavy snowfalls that plagued the past two ALA Midwinters. Perhaps being early appeased the weather gods.
