Laboratory Support for Official Control of Olive Oil in Portugal

The Community Regulation published in November 1991 -no. 2568/91- is without a doubt one of the most stringent legislative provisions on quality-related aspects of the common market organisations (CMO) introduced by the European Union. It is an extraordinarily complex regulation which has been amended on 11 occasions. It has over 14 annexes relating to the practical performance of sophisticated methods of analysis and is also applicable to the olive oil sold to end consumers throughout the entire European Union.
