First of all, allow me to thank the IOOC for inviting me to take part in this 79th session and for giving me this opportunity, as the Community representative, to address such a knowledgeable assembly. The turn of this century, which leads us into the next millennium, is packed with events and increasingly characterised by a globalisation of the economy that is shaking up and changing the traditional terms of production and trade.
