The international olive oil market: figures for 1998/99 and outlook for 1999/00

During its 81st session (Jaen, 15-19 November 1999), the International Olive Oil Council examined the situation on the world olive oil market during the 1998/99 crop year by analysing the main parameters shown in the balance figures. It also looked at the prospects for the 1999/00 crop year. On the supply front, the figure for world olive oil production was raised after taking into account the adjustments made basically to the production figures of the European Community and Tunisia. Now over 2,370,000 t, it is only slightly below the record figures of the previous two seasons. With this latest figure, average production during the current decade works out at over 2,030,000 t.
