Agronomic and pedological effects of two different soil management methods in a hilly olive grove of southern Italy

This paper summarises the results of five years of research studying the influence of two different soil management methods - permanent cover crop (PC) and ploughing (PL) - on the vegetative and productive characteristics of a young olive grove located in a hilly area near Cosenza (southern Italy). It also reports the four-year results for a number of erosion parameters in the same orchard. The data obtained show a significant improvement of both the vegetative and hydrological parameters considered when the PC method was applied.
