Having risen to prominence in the North Sea flying the service operator flag it creatively fashioned over several years with various like-minded independent oil companies, Petrofac is now mapping out the next march in its facilities and field management campaign. Darius Snieckus speaks with managing director Jim Atack about home truths, global vision and 'changing behaviours' in the international oil business. Supermajor Shell's decision two years ago to ring-fence its European E&P business under one executive management team was as clear a signal of changing times in the North Sea oil industry as was the continuing influx of smaller independent operators into the offshore region. But it was the latter trend that Petrofac Facilities Management had positioned itself - as had its predecessor PGS Production Solutions - to progressively build a core business out of providing a full suite of operator services from field redevelopment engineering up to full duty holdership.
