Skin exposure

ILL health due to skin exposure has traditionally been something that has been overlooked when dealing with potential hazards and the resulting ill health. However, in more recent years many people have come to realise the significance of skin exposure to both harmful substances and situations in the workplace. According to the US Occupational Safety and Health Administration:'Both the number of cases and the rate of skin disease in the United States exceed recordable respiratory illnesses. In 2006, 41,400 recordable skin diseases were reported by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics as a rate of 4.5 injuries per 10,000 employees, compared to 17,700 respiratory illnesses with a rate of 1.9 illnesses per 10,000 employees.'1
